Works primarily in community development, the human services and refugees and migrant developments. The underpinning of Love's academic and professional practice is to understand how to integrate wider public policy issues as the context for professional practice. His professional activities include membership of the Editorial Advisory Boards of the Community Development Journal published by Oxford University; Middle Belt Perspectives published byUniversity of Oklahoma; New Community Quarterly Hawthorn Victoria Australia; and also Editor in Chief of The Africa Focus Magazine 2000-2002. He is also on the Board of the International Association for Community Development. Love is a member of the reference group on migration and social cohesion for the Ministry of Social Development. He is completing the first of a two-book series on community development practice in Aotearoa New Zealand, the first of which is to be launched at the National Local Authority Community Development Conference in September 2007.
