Dr Shirley Jülich

Senior lecturer in Social Science at AUT University. She is also the programme leader developing the new programmes in restorative justice that will be offered in 2009 through the Restorative Justice Centre in IPP. Shirley’s PhD investigated the complex relationship between the criminal justice system, restorative justice, and child sexual abuse from the perspective of adult survivors of child sexual abuse. This research also included a costing analysis of child sexual abuse in New Zealand and a cost benefit analysis that justified the use of restorative justice as a paradigm within which survivors could experience a sense of justice. Shirley is a co-founder of Project Restore, a programme that aims to address gendered violence by using restorative justice processes. Her research interests focus on the intersection of gendered violence, recovery, and justice and the economic costs and consequences this has for victims, offenders, their families and the broader society. Shirley has published her research in international journals such as the Journal of Child Sexual Abuse and Theoretical Criminology
