SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

The Social Development Program administered by the Institute of Public Policy encompasses three major work streams:

1. S
OCIAL POLICY, which explores the research policy nexus with particular emphasis on household income and work, social investment and social development in cities and regions.

2. C
HILDREN AND FAMILIES, in which the IPP has played a leading role in national programs such as Building Tomorrow and Every Child Counts.

3. CRIME AND JUSTICE including contracts with the Ministry of Justice and Institute of Environmental Science and Research Limited, Membership of Safer Auckland City and an MOU with the intelligence unit of Auckland City District Police. In September 2006 a national Restorative Justice Centre will be officially launched by the Governor General, an initiative that substantially advances the crime and justice programme of the IPP.

Unreasonable Force cover
A new book by Beth Wood, Ian Hassall and George Hook was launched last week in Wellington. Entitled Unreasonable Force, New Zealand's journey towards banning the physical punishment of children, it has been sponsored by Save the Children New Zealand. Read more about it here.
