'Value for Money' and Performance Management Seminar

The recent AUT Local Government Seminar 'Value for Money' and Performance Management in Councils was very well attended by our colleagues from councils, and from agencies that work alongside local government including consultancies, unions, universities, employers groups and government departments.

Both Ruth Hunter and Christine Cheyne provided excellent insights into their respective fields of knowledge and practice in performance management which were helpful and informative. Here are further notes from Ruth pertaining to her presentation. These include:

  • UK audit commission criteria against which UK councils are reviewed.
  • Key extracts from the Rochdale Council's medium term financial strategy that highlights the 'value for money' approach taken at Rochdale.
  • the newly downsized (UK) national performance indicators (from 1200+ indicators to 198!).
  • Ruth's powerpoint presentation.

Please feel free to contact the Local Government Centre (ph: (09) 921-9999 ext 6034) with any further queries you may have regarding this particular work, or in other matters of local government business, networks, and / or research.

The AUT Local Government Centre is envisaging hosting another seminar in the near future. Please check this site regularly for these invitations in 2008.
